My Aquaponics:
WHY?
After having a very unsuccessful year in Kansas (2011) , I decided to find a way to have a successful indoor crop while also getting a jump on the season for my outdoor garden. I also had to move back to good ole' Tennessee during this time, but I was going to put together what I had learned and researched.
What is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics is the combination of growing fish (aquaculture) and plants in soil-less media (hydoponics). So basically you create a system in which both become happy and loose some of their negatives such as filtration and water replacement as well as salt build-up that occurs in hydroponics. You create a Nitrogen Cycle.
Here's a breakdown;
Fish breath and poop Ammonia and other organic nutrients from their feed
Naturally occurring Nitrifying Bacteria then convert it to Nitrites and Nitrates
The Plants use the Organic material and Nitrites/Nitrates to grow.
There Ya Go. Pretty Simple. Mostly, there are a few necessary elements that are a must to a good system... (cont. on Aquaponic Blog)

Research And Development:
I love to tinker and build stuff to understand how things work and if I think I might could improve on it.
I'm always doing something. At the Moment you can learn about Hydrogen Generators for supplemental fuel and Ozone Generators.
